West Norfolk PCT
Influencing policy and commissioning involving the Muslim community
This idea originated from patients. The project was not planned - it was opportunistic. It came about through the Diverse Communities Forum and West Norfolk and Fenland Muslims Group.
Self selected patients asked the PCT to meet the Community Group and this happened - the project grew from that.
It was a patient led initiative -West Norfolk PCT believes anything that comes from patients will be listened to. The PCT supports three key principles: we will report back what has been done as a result of what has been said, what is still to be done and when, and what we cannot do and why.
Word of mouth has also been used effectively in this particular project and this communication method is greatly valued by West Norfolk PCT.
The project feels the critical factors for success are:
- Willingness on the part of the PCT to 'do it'
- Accountability - Response/when/why - PCT must be held to account
