Work with Travellers in St Day

This project illustrates how multi agency work underpins the work and enables development of accessible services for travellers - i.e. schools, police, health, social services, education liaison.

The project came to fruition in 2003/04 after 3 years background work. It was 'patient driven' from day one with patients self selecting.

Informal evaluation is ongoing with group members - particularly the travelling education liaison officer - and patients are fully involved throughout.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Time to work at clients' pace

•  Cultural sensitivity - do not impose your ideas

•  Multi agency approach

•  Work on empowering people all the time
