Tower Hamlets PCT

Neighbourhood Renewal Funding (NRF) was provided to introduce the Single Assessment Process and from that an Older Persons Reference Group was established to promote the interests of older people in the Tower Hamlets locality.

Approximately 30 older people are involved in the reference group.

Staff locally and the Age Concern local branch wanted this type of initiative to happen - the NRF funding therefore greatly assisted local intentions.

Various methods are used to advertise the reference group locally and anyone can join 'if you feel like an older person.'

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Director level interest essential

•  Relationship building essential - face to face.

• Make sure full spectrum of staff involved - top to bottom.

• Allow time for patients to be properly involved
