TOFFS (The Over Fifties Forum)

The Local Authority co-ordinator started TOFF project in year 2000 working with the Voluntary Sector. There is an open invitation to be involved in the Forum to anyone over 50 in the geographical area.

Patients were involved in development of the project particularly in through the work of the Single Assessment officer. Patients were also key members on the group developing Thurrock's 'Strategy for Ageing.'

Though there is no formal evaluation TOFF is now embedded in the culture locally.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Enthusiasm

•  Ability to identify key activists

• Organisational support from the top with money and resources

• Treating people with respect

• Give meaningful information
