Community Health Educators

This project took on board eleven key members from black & minority ethnic communities who had undertaken a 13-week course in health issues and communication skills and trained them in cancer, diabetes and coronary heart disease so that they are able to pass on clear, accurate and positive health messages amongst their communities.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

• Responding to what the community says they need

• Build on existing contacts - and find them if you don't already know them

• Build relationship/trust with groups
