Shropshire PCT

Joint work involving Patient Participation Groups, Primary Care Trust and Patient and Public Involvement Forum.

This project is an innovative way of involving patients in GP Practices through harmonising the Primary Care Trust, the Patient and Public Involvement Forum and GP Practice on more effective patient involvement.

All parties were involved in planning and a workshop held in September 2004 - attendees were mainly Practice Managers from 44 Surgeries in Shropshire.

One outcome is a practice toolkit now being developed for use in Primary Care.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Working with already existing groups

•  Take an opportunistic approach
