PPI Toolkit

This project is the development of a toolkit to support and inform staff about involving patients and the public more effectively in the work of the PCT.

During 2002 RHN (Rotherham Health Network) were used as a sounding board for ideas and the toolkit idea developed with them as partners to engender greater awareness of PPI among PCT staff.

There was honest and open working with patients throughout and clarity and understanding of what is deliverable.

'Your Guide' Patient Prospectus contained a tear off section asking for volunteers to become involved in their local NHS and a database built from that. (Over 200 names now on database)

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Honesty

• Feedback - good and bad

• Valuing/respecting opinions

• Being aware of existing groups in community and how to work with them
