Partnership Development Team

This service is commissioned by the PCTs in Nottinghamshire through the Red Cross and the aim is to fully involve the public and patients in the planning and running of the local NHS.

There are a number of regular forums with representation of various groups of the population. The Red Cross also runs stakeholder events and focus groups and conducts questionnaires and surveys.

The concept was promoted initially by the voluntary sector through an umbrella organisation at the time called 'Community Reference Group.'

The reputation of the project is good within the four PCT's and it is regularly promoted as an example of good practice by PCT's.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

  •  Need to be independent and neutral to gain acceptance by users.
  •  Being accessible is crucial.Give people a real voice.
  • Ensure you are a dedicated resource - i.e. not split loyalties about your job - do one thing very well rather than spread yourself too thinly.
