Northiam and Broad Oak surgeries
This is a rural practice with 4 GPs - two are part time. It is a GP training practice with approximately 6000 patients registered. The group has developed from a formal to more informal culture. The group has significant funds accumulated so does not provide fund raising.
The group meets only four times per year and produces a newsletter twice per year. The involvement of the Trustees with the practice is through the senior partner who represents the practice at the four planned meetings each year.
The funds are used to provide equipment that will benefit patients. Toys for the waiting room, nebulisers for patients to use at home, enuresis alarms to use at home to name a few.
There is an annual meeting with between 100 and 150 people attending each year. This is planned in partnership with doctors and guest speakers are invited to speak on relevant health topics.
The PPG feels the critical factors for success are:
- Make yourself known as a PPG to your PCT - particularly on controversial issues.
- Invite Chief Executive of PCT and Senior Staff of PCT to Trustee meetings and as appropriate to the Annual Meeting.
- Create relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
- Good administration and good information to PPG members is a very important feature.
