Expert Patient Programme (EPP) - moving forward

Patients were invited to take part from day one. Bi-monthly meeting of 10-12 patients took place to design literature/courses/ and relate their personal stories to influence the programme. Voluntary Tutors came from this 'lay-led' committee.

Protected learning time sessions in GP surgeries were attended by Dr Arun Patel to promote and 'sell' the concept of EPP.

There is no formal evaluation but each course has feedback from participants.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Word of mouth works

• Get GP's on board early - they can be a barrier
