Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Focus Groups

Following the PCT patient survey of the previous year (2003) concerns were expressed that 'hard to reach' groups were not making their voices heard about services. The PCT 'went out' to seek people from the BME population and established four focus groups to work through the questions on the patient survey.

An action plan was developed through the focus groups and has been written into the Local Delivery Plan for Leeds South PCT.

There is ongoing evaluation as part of the patient survey programme.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

•  Keep it simple

•  Be realistic and truthful to patients

•  Be genuine - don't be tokenistic
