Camden PCT

Camden PCT staff worked with local people to produce "Creating Partnerships with People" - a good practice guide for user involvement.

This was a true partnership involving Local Authority, NHS and Voluntary Sector. The steering group also included people with health related conditions. Local self-advocacy groups were invited to identify representatives to work on the project.

There was a joint Health and Local Authority launch event with Director level involvement. All Senior Managers in both organisations were given a copy of the guide.

Staff who are user involvement representatives within services reviewed and discussed each chapter of the guide in the PCTs 'User Experience of Care Group'.

The project feels the critical factors for success are:

• Driver needed - a champion - for PPI

• Resources, mainly financial are essential
