Bristol North PCT
This project captures the views of Black and Ethnic Minority people in Bristol for the major reconfiguration of services in the City. A major inclusion conference was held in 2004 following which a number of local people become fully engaged as partners of the local NHS in the re-configuration plans.
Between 40 and 50 people attended the conference and around 650 organisations were mailed during the consultation process. Part of the evaluation process about patient involvement includes a Race Impact Assessment that took place in January 2005.
The project feels the critical factors for success are:
- Senior Management ownership of PPI and Senior Managers on PPI committees
- Money - resources - not huge amounts - a little goes a long way in PPI
- We need staff to do it - get staff seconded to PPI work is one option
- Keep an open mind
- Good links with umbrella organisations and other organisations
